BELGIUM — A.C.E. Building Service of Manitowoc has completed a distinctive construction project for Lakeside Food — a new 6,840-square-foot migrant labor dormitory facility.
A.C.E. used a construction waste recycling program for the first time. The majority of construction materials were re-used in the building project reinforcing A.C.E.'s commitment to building green and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.
Nearly 100 percent of all demolition and new construction materials were diverted from landfills, including the existing concrete that was removed from the old foundation. Almost 70 percent f all other new construction materials were diverted from landfills, such as cardboard, drywall and wood.
A company news releases said the waste recycling process saved time and money over traditional construction waste disposal methods.
The completed structure is designed to provide migrant labor housing for 12 families of four. It features a wood frame, prefabricated wall panels and wood trusses that were erected on site. The building was designed with low maintenance in mind, featuring easily cleanable interior surfaces, low maintenance vinyl siding, vinyl windows, and asphalt shingles.
