Dowco achieves five years without lost-time accident at its plants

MANITOWOC — Employees at Dowco, Inc.'s facilities in Manitowoc and Lebanon, Mo. recently celebrated five years without a lost-time accident. A news release from the company said the plants' safety committees, along with various employee involvement groups, plant engineering, supervision, and human resources have championed efforts to heighten awareness and fix problems that could result in injuries.

The teams have used the company's incident rates to judge the overall success of their efforts and have seen continued improvement with 2009 having zero OSHA recordable and lost time injuries.

The teams are implementing programs seeking to create to an even safer work environment. The safety committee sponsors a number of awareness programs that keeps overall safety in the minds of all employees.

Two of these are the ergonomics and observation programs that assist all employees with systematic methods to identify, stop and prevent unsafe actions and behaviors in the work place.
