Ryan Fessler and Joey Peroutke, a pair of seniors at Mishicot High School, captured the top honors at Friday's Junior Achievement Business Challenge II, held at Lakeshore Technical College in Cleveland.
The two finished atop a field of 48 students from eight area high schools using their brains, guile and leadership skills to steer their mock company through the choppy waters of the current financial crisis.
As grand-prize winners, Fessler and Peroutke, were each awarded full-tuition, two-year scholarships at Lakeshore Technical College; plus full-tuition, two-year scholarships at Silver Lake College; and their team will be entered into the State Business Challenge to be held April 30 at ACUITY in Sheboygan. Thousands of dollars in scholarships were given out to students at the First Business Challenge offered to Manitowoc and Calumet County high school students.
Jordan Butturini and Brian Denor of Reedsville High School were the runners-up and each won a $2,000 Lakeland College scholarship renewable up to four years for a total of $8,000 and their team will also be entered into the State Business Challenge to be held on April 30 at ACUITY in Sheboygan.
All 24 teams were trying to meld several strategies together in trying to manufacture and sell a fictional product called the "Holo-Generator," using elements such as price, production, marketing, capital investment, research and development and charitable giving.
