LAS VEGAS — The Manitowoc Co.’s crane division is exhibiting 12 different models at CONEXPO 2008, which concludes Friday.

The largest construction equipment trade show in North America began Monday, with about 125,000 people attending. It is held every three years in Las Vegas.

Among the dozen cranes on display are seven new launches, and other cranes making their first public appearance in the U.S. The local company also announced development of a new model 31000, its largest crawler crane to date, with a lifting capacity of 2,300 tons.

In addition to the lifting equipment on display, Manitowoc Co. also is sharing information about its Manitowoc Crane CARE, its customer support division, and CraneCREDIT, the company’s financing arm. Visitors are encouraged to test their crane operation skills via a training simulator.

Before going to Las Vegas, Larry Weyers, Manitowoc’s executive vice president for the Americas region, said the company wants to use CONEXPO 2008 to reinforce some key messages.

“We are anticipating a high level of interest in our newest generation of cranes at CONEXPO 2008,” Weyers said. “The show gives us an opportunity to remind the industry of our commitment to product innovation and customer support, not only for our North American customers, but for our customers around the globe.”
