MILWAUKEE — Eight Wisconsin companies received 2008 Wisconsin Manufacturer of the Year Awards on Thursday night including Orion Energy Systems.
Based in Manitowoc, Orion is an energy technology company specializing in the design, development, manufacture and deployment of energy management systems.
Orion was recognized as the winner in the Medium Company category, defined as organizations with 50 to 299 employees. Among its 20 competitors for the award was Miller-St. Nazianz, a manufacturer of agricultural equipment, including crop sprayers.
The winning companies were announced at a black-tie awards dinner and program at The Pfister Hotel.
The awards recognize Wisconsin companies demonstrating a commitment to business excellence, which has a positive impact on the company and the state, making Wisconsin a better place to live, work and play, according to a news release from Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce.
The news release stated, "Orion's energy-saving products are changing the way companies think about paying for rising energy costs. The company's integrated phased approach includes energy-efficient lighting, proprietary energy management controls and direct renewable light pipes.
"Its customers include manufacturing, warehousing, commercial and institutional facilities throughout North America."
