MANITOWOC — Vinton Construction Co. was one of six state companies to recently receive a Wisconsin Department of Transportation Construction Award.
The road contractor was honored with the Excellence in Concrete Paving Award for the company's work on Wisconsin 114 in Winnebago County.
The $2.2 million project reconstructed the highway and incorporated community-sensitive design features to enhance an inner-city neighborhood in Menasha.
The project upgraded a significantly deficient roadway to a new four-lane roadway under a tight schedule while maintaining access across the roadway on two major side roads.
The project corridor housed 24 businesses which required continual access, had 82 residential and business driveways, one internal dead-end local street, residents with special handicap access needs and access controls for material and equipment delivery.
Design features included installation of a colored and stamped terrace area along the majority of the project as well as concrete crosswalks at the majority of the intersections.
Vinton also provided storm sewer construction, grading and hazardous material excavation.
